South-South Cooperation Initiative to fund fellowship to support the implementation of a National Social Protection Floor in Cambodia

During two South-South exchange missions in June, IT experts from Thailand’s National Health Security Office (NHSO) and Health Insurance System Research Office (HISRO) gave support to technicians in Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training in designing a Management Information System (MIS) for the new National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Health Insurance System. Following on from the success of these missions, the South-South Cooperation Initiative will now provide funding for a fellowship, allowing one member of NSSF staff to complete the Master’s Degree in Health Security Financing and Management at Naresuan University, Thailand. The course, which has been developed with technical input from the International Labour Organization (ILO), gives students the opportunity to learn from the Thai experience of managing and financing health security, as well as from broader theories and practice from across the globe.

The South-South Cooperation Initiative is the result of an increased collaboration between the UNDP Special Unit for South-South Cooperation and the ILO. It is a two year project which aims at supporting countries from the South in the design, implementation, monitoring and harmonization of Social Protection Floor policies or components. More information on the role of South-South Cooperation in the implementation on National Social Protection Floors is available here.
