Rwanda publishes National Social Protection Strategy Report, January 2011

As part of a seven year strategy, the Rwandan Government has agreed to implement a social protection floor for the most vulnerable households and individuals, comprising:

a. Cash transfers, providing a minimum income and livelihood security, and

b. Continuing extension of access to core essential services for poor and vulnerable households, in particular health, education, shelter and water, and sanitation.

At the same time, Rwanda hopes to increase the participation of the informal sector in the contributory social security system, with more people enjoying the benefits of labour legislation.
