Outcome summary

The Pension Scheme of the National Social Security Fund as been approved

Outcome achieved

In March 2021, the Royal GoC issued sub-decree 32 on “Pension Scheme for Persons Defined by the Provisions of the Labour Law”. The scheme will provide pension benefits to more than the 2 million existing members covered under the National Social Security Fund. The pension is expected to be formally launched in early 2022.

ILO's contribution to the outcome

The design benefited from years of ILO technical engagement with Government and social partners, inspired by ILS principles, including: preparatory work through capacity building and technical workshops; policy notes, inputs to the design of the scheme and facilitation of national dialogue. ILO recommendations were taken on board with the exception of the final initial contribution rate agreed between the government and the social partners which was lower than recommended.
