The tripartite consultative board of the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services endorsed in April 2017 an ILO report concerning the development of a comprehensive work injury compensation legislation in Kenya .

Outcome achieved

The tripartite consultative board of the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services endorsed in April 2017 an ILO report entitled “Legal, Governance and Compliance issues concerning the development of a comprehensive work injury compensation legislation in Kenya” and have started discussing the reform of the current employer-liability system to transform it in an employment injury insurance system.

ILO's contribution to the outcome

The ILO prepared the technical report, which presents the roadmap for the legal and policy reform towards a Workers' Compensation Law and that informed the discussions on a comprehensive work injury compensation legislation.

Social dialogue

The ILO has trained the members of the tripartite consultative board, the Federation of Kenya Employers and the Central Organization of Trade Unions on the legal framework and the design of the employment injury insurance scheme.
