Outcome achieved

The NSPS aims to relieve chronic poverty and food insecurity, assisting the poor to cope with shocks and building human capital for the future, to help break the cycle of poverty. It includes five pillars: (1) in-kind support (food, sanitation, water, shelter) for the poor and vulnerable; (2) social assistance for vulnerable mothers and children; (3) minimum income support and job opportunities for the working age population through public employment programmes and vocational training; (4) effective access to affordable, quality health care and financial protection in case of illness; (5) income, inkind and psychosocial support and adequate social care for specific vulnerable groups.

ILO's contribution to the outcome

Assessment of social protection and employment-related services in the two provinces, followed by feasibility study of the SWS (Nov 2011-June 2012).
