Outcome achieved

The Hellenic Statistical Authority of Greece (ELSTAT) improved its statistical system and fulfilled its reporting obligations under the European System of Integrated Economic Accounts (ESA) by completing Table 29 of Regulation 549/2013 (Pensions in National Accounts) with reference year 2018 and the related EUROSTAT Fact Sheet in August 2021. These data are expected to be published on Eurostat web site before the end of 2021 The publication of this data improves the transparency of publicly available information on the pension system. The institutional capacity to measure financial situation of the pension system according to ESA has thus were thus enhanced.

ILO's contribution to the outcome

The ILO supported the modifications of the National Actuarial Authority (NAA) actuarial models for the 8 pension schemes to accommodate the closed-group calculations as of 31 December 2017 and 2018 using the methodology prescribed under Chapter 17 of ESA 2010. The ILO further supported the calculation of the relevant columns of Table 29 and provided assistance to complete the EUROSTAT Fact Sheet, enhancing the capacity of ELSTAT.
