18ª Reunión Regional Americana de la OIT

Between the 13th and the 16th of October of 2014, the 18th American Regional Meeting took place in Lima, bringing together more than 490 delegates from the Americas, including labour ministers, government officials and leaders of trade unions and employers organizations. The representatives agreed on a range of measures to promote the fight against informality and inequality in the region, through decent work.

As a result of the Regional Meeting, the "Declaration of Lima" was signed. This statement calls for combatting inequality through "integrated economic and social policies to promote social inclusion, decent work and productive employment, as well as an enabling environment for sustainable enterprises." The Declaration enhances the importance of implementing “policies aimed at establishing social protection floors and social security measures, in line with the provisions of the Social Security (Minimum Standards) Convention, 1952 (No. 102), and/or the Social Protection Floors Recommendation, 2012 (No. 202).”

Furthermore, the document “The role of Social Protection Floors in Latin America and the Caribbean” was presented, explaining the ILO’s development strategy of the Social Security systems.
