UK: Children's health harmed by rising poverty

"The impact of poverty on children's health and wellbeing should not be underestimated. Low income can lead to poor health, while coping with illness can result in a lower earning capacity – perpetuating a cycle of deprivation. And we know that many of the causes of child death – including perinatal deaths and suicides – disproportionally affect the most disadvantaged in society. We simply cannot ignore these warnings. We must act now and put children at the very heart of any strategy to tackle poverty and health inequalities."
