Maternity Protection trainings for labour and legal inspectors of Trade Unions, the Republic of Tajikistan, Kurgan-Tube 12-13 September and Kalaihum (Darvaz) 15-16 September 2017

The ILO and Federation of Independent Trade Unions of the Republic of Tajiksitan continue with the series of trainings aimed to bring labour and technical inspectors and other experts working on maternity protection issues and develop their skills on maternity protection issues.

From the 12th to 16th of September, 2017, the ILO held trainings in two cities of Tajikistan (Kurgan-Tube and Kalaihum) for the labour and technical inspectors and other experts working on maternity protection issues. The training was organized with the financial support of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Finland (“From the Crisis towards Decent and Safe Jobs in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Phase II”).

The aim of the training was to teach the inspectors and experts to use international social standards in their daily work, with focus on Maternity Protection Convention 2000 (No.183), teach them new skills and give necessary information about mternity protection.

The trainings were taught by the international trainer Kairgul Sadybykasova and national trainer Saera Ashrapova and facilitated by the ILO Social protection officer, Artiom Sici as an efficient and entertaining simulation.

“While the situation of women working in formal, standard jobs is uneven, for great numbers of women working in atypical, non-standard and precarious jobs and the informal economy, maternity protection remains well beyond reach. The absence of any form of social protection deprives these women of appropriate maternal and infant health care, thus forcing some of them into catastrophic health expenditures and poverty. The world of work is a promising entry point for scaling up interventions aimed at improving maternal and infant health, addressing income and social insecurity and poverty" - said the ILO official during training.

Series of trainings devoted to technical aspects of maternity protection guiding, social dialogue, contemporary guiding standards and promotion of the international standards which are reflected in the international key instruments, were held over the course of 2 days in each city. Each training was attended by 20 participants.
