ILO/Korea Fellowship training on strengthening social protection in Asia: Learning from Korean experience on Employment Insurance (EI) and Employment Injury Insurance (EII)

The ILO/Korea fellowship training on employment insurance and employment injury insurance has been held from 25 October to 2 November 2012 in Seoul, South Korea.

The training focused on the development of social protection in ASEAN countries through building capacity of its operation for EI or EII-implementing nations, raising awareness of social insurance type scheme against unemployment and occupational injury or disease for especially countries with employer liability system and sharing experiences among participants. 

The objectives of the training were to:

  1. identify priority needs in establishing or improving EI and EII in line with ILO Social Security Conventions, notably ILO Convention No. 102 (Minimum Standards) and international good practices, especially of the Republic of Korea;
  2. have a clear vision and ideas in establishing or strengthening EI and EII in terms of legislation, scheme design, administrative procedure, awareness-raising, training, etc;
  3. develop EI and EII policy measures aimed at addressing external shocks such as global economic crisis through studying global initiatives and case studies of peer participants.
