Summary (English)

The documentary film "Working Mother: Maternity Protection at Work in Mozambique" explores the double burden of Mozambican women as mothers and workers, in the formal and informal economy. It highlights that the world of work is a privileged space to promote policies, services and practices that ensure that the work does not endanger the health of the mother or child during and after pregnancy, and women's reproductive role does not undermine their economic security or employment. It illustrates the risks of inadequate coverage, the challenge of the de facto extension of maternity protection given the labor market dynamics and possible policy solutions.

Working Mother" was launched in October 2014 in Maputo, Mozambique. It has been used as a tool to stimulate debate, research and discussion among workers, policy makers and government officials. The film has been incorporated in the trade union's member education curriculum, reaching more than 400 hundred of workers in just the first few weeks. The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Action’s has also distributed it to its provincial delegations and civil society organizations, and this April, was disseminated at the central level by the Ministries during their annual Women’s Day festivities.
