ILO
2015

Summary (English)

This film shows how social cash transfers in Mozambique can improve people’s lives, contributing to cope with basic needs and enhancing consumption within the household. Grandma Regina is able to purchase food items with the subsidy but also it helps to meet other household needs, like buying school uniform for their grandson or take public transport to go to the health center. In Mozambique, basic social protection beneficiaries’ have doubled since 2010, but it still represents barely 15% of those in need, and for those covered, the benefits are insufficient. There is a need to continue investing in Social Protection as a way to fight poverty, inequality, social exclusion and insecurity in Mozambique.
