Summary (English)

SPS works with member countries and other stakeholders to advance a common understanding of integrated social policy in the region. It supports governments in designing social policy frameworks and instruments that mainstream social equity and pro-poor policies throughout the policy cycle.

The programme areas include:

(i) advocating integrated social policy approaches that mainstream equity concerns into public sector decision-making;

(ii) assisting governments in developing a national vision for social policy through an open dialogue with relevant stakeholders;

(iii) cooperation with member countries in analyzing policy gaps and challenges, and devising policies on the basis of regional and international best practices;

(iv) identifying appropriate instruments that allow for successful institutionalization and monitoring of social policy.

Through its publications, projects and advisory work, as well as partnership with organizations within and outside the UN system, SPS assists member countries in their efforts to achieve people-centered development.
