Summary (English)

The document presents the background, the achievements and an analysis of the School Health Programme launched by the Naandi Foundation in 2005 in India. The School Health Programme is an original and replicable model for the delivery of essential and quality multi-speciality healthcare services to underprivileged children in India. The programme was piloted with the objective of studying common disease patterns in this group of children and ensuring the minimal cost. To achieve these aims, private, trust hospitals and individual medical professionals have been inspired to come together as philanthropists to provide their expert services to children (diagnosis, out-patient and in-patient care, investigations, specialty consultations, surgery and medicine). As a result, the Naandi Foundation provides 60,000 state school children in 289 schools in Hyderabad with quality health services within their school premises, and at zero cost for the family. The programme is a huge success in terms of cost and coverage.
