Summary (English)

South Africa provides a non-contributory Disability Grant of 1,500 South African rands (US$112) to 2.87 million people living with a disability, comprising about 7.5 per cent of the population. The grant also covers persons with chronic illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, which has a high prevalence in the country. South Africa is one of the only countries in sub-Saharan Africa to provide a disability allowance.
