The report sets out the context in which African countries seek to develop their social protection policies and offers an overview of the prevailing situation of social security provision. It presents topical issues regarding social health protection and the schemes designed to provide income security for different groups of the population. The report contains a number of country case studies together with a compilation of key statistics.
