  1. The launch of ILO's World Social Protection Report 2014/15, a comprehensive source of information on social protection systems, policy trends and social protection statistics in 182 countries.
  1. The launch of the World Bank's State of Social Safety Nets 2014, using data from 146 countries, including detailed household survey data from 69 countries in the World Bank ASPIRE database, the report provides new estimates on social safety net programs and highlights emerging innovations.
  2. World Day Against Child Labour 2014 draws attention to the role of social protection in keeping children out of child labour.
  3. At the International Labour Conference in June 2014, government, employer and worker delegates of the ILO's 185 member States discussed social protection as a key element of national policies that facilitates transitions from the informal to the formal economy. The results of this discussion may lead to the adoption of a new international labour standard (recommendation) in 2015

Building social protection floors
A good practices guide: Assessment based national dialogue

Building social protection floors (SPFs) starts by an Assessment based national dialogue (ABND) exercise, the first step towards the achievement of nationally defined SPFs. It helps formulate relevant and feasible policy options, based on an assessment of the social protection situation, cost estimations and national dialogue.

The ABND guide provides step-by-step support for conducting an ABND exercise. It can be used for self-learning, delivering training workshops and conducting full-fledged ABND exercises. The guide proves most useful for line ministries, social security institutions, social partners, civil society organizations, UN agencies and development partners, social protection taskforces and experts in the field.
