South-South exchange Sub-regional Workshop on strategies for universal health coverage, 20th-22nd February 2013, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

Between 20th and 22nd February, as part of an on-going ILO South-South cooperation project, line ministers from Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Côte d’Ivoire, Mali and Senegal will participate in a sub-regional conference on strategies to promote and extend universal health coverage. The conference is co-hosted by the World Health Organization, and will provide an opportunity for government representatives, who are currently developing strategies to extend health coverage as part of establishing social protection floors, to learn from the experiences of two other countries in the South: India and Thailand. Dr. Thaworn Sakulphanit will present on Thailand’s Universal Coverage Scheme – its design, implementation and financing mechanisms and Dr. Nishant Jain will discuss the innovative use of technology and information management in India’s Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). Both experts will also be on hand to share their knowledge during workshops and group discussions.

This conference is organized as part of the broader South-South and triangular cooperation initiative for the implementation of gender sensitive social protection floors, which is a collaboration between the UNDP Special Unit for South-South Cooperation and the ILO.
