The National Assembly approved, on 6 March 2014, a bill establishing universal health coverage (CMU), a compulsory social health protection for residents in Côte d'Ivoire.
The system offers two schemes: contributory and non-contributory. The first is a basic scheme proposing a minimum package of health care provided to all people in Côte d'Ivoire for a monthly contribution of 1,000 CFA francs per insured. The non-contributory scheme applies to people living in extreme poverty; in this case, the State will inject about 49 billion CFA francs into the CMU funds.
