Social Protection, Freedom and Justice for Workers Initiative
Mobilizing Workers for Social Protection
The Social Protection, Freedom and Justice for Workers Initiative brings together worker's organizations, ITUC, ILO and other partners to advocate and support the accomplishment of SDG Target 1.3 to implement nationally appropriate social protection systems and measures for all, including floors.
Through the Initiative, its members will engage in joint advocacy and communication efforts, information and knowledge sharing and strengthening workers’ organisations capacities to:
- advocate for social protection, including national Social Protection Floors (SPFs)
- contest austerity and reforms by ensuring that any social security reform is done in the context of tripartite dialogue
- contribute to the design and implementation of SPFs;
- educate its members and the general public about the importance of social protection and the SPF approach;
- monitor social protection implementation and administration to hold governments accountable for the enforcement of the SPF;
- mobilizing workers to articulate their voices based on ILO Conventions and Recommendations, to ensure benefit adequacy as well as the long-term sustainability of social security systems.
