Zambia National Social Protection Policy Launched: December 2014

ILO, UNICEF, Irish Aid, and Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health

The National Social Protection Policy was launched in December 2014. The formulation and launch of this Policy is one of the Government Republic of Zambia’s dedicated efforts to ensure that the role of social protection in pro-poor growth remains central and increases in systemic efficiency.

The main pillars of the NSPP are: Social Assistance; Social Security and Social Health Insurance; Livelihood and Empowerment; Protection and Disability. The Policy has been developed with an Action Plan which clearly spells out what activities will be undertaken to realize its objectives and strategies.

It is expected that the Policy will guide implementation of Social Protection programs and will address the challenges which have been hampering the delivery of social protection in Zambia. Some of these challenges include coordination, coherence, and resource mobilization of Social Protection Programs.
