Workers Compensation Fund Board and ILO sign MOU: May 2015

ILO, UN Zambia, Irish Aid, Government of Finland, Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Workers' Compensation Fund Control Board, and National Pensions Scheme Authority.

The Workers Compensation Fund Control Board and the International Labour Organization signed a Memorandum of Understanding to extend Social Protection to the construction sector.

 The MoU is expected to resolve long standing concerns on the need to provide coverage for employees in the informal sector. This is because employees in the informal construction sector are prone to industrial accidents and are vulnerable to diseases contracted during the course of duty. This partnership with ILO is beneficial in designing activities that will ultimately resolve compliance and coverage of issues in the sector.
