Description

The proposed joint programme seeks to address the formal and informal barriers women and girls are confronted with to enjoy their human rights. It strives to ensure target groups are associated not only as action targets but as key contributors and empowered agents of change. Target groups will include women and girls, men and boys, people who are non-gender conforming, households, community actors / networks, formal institutions, relevant social, economic and political actors in project intervention areas. The proposed joint programme aims to address structural gender gaps that limit Nepal’s development trajectory, while addressing specific strategic gaps most gender equality and women’s empowerment programmes do not address. It recognises the intersecting vulnerabilities, formal and informal forces which aggregate to leave behind half of Nepal’s vital forces and keep them in an intergenerational revolving cycle of deprivation, exclusion and discrimination. It will also build on the specific window of opportunity brought by the new federal system, with an unprecedented number of women in elected governmental positions. Partnerships and linkages with other ongoing initiatives will be critical in achieving results both within and across outcomes, as challenging the institutional culture of the political and social institutions will be key. The programme’s gender lens will be used as a means to shed light on key gender equality challenges affecting the performance of specific sectors, leaving behind women and girls and stifling their contributions.
