- This project is part of the Global Flagship Programme on Building Social Protection Floors for All
Description
The project aims to reduce informal employment, by formalising enterprises and jobs, expanding social insurance to informal and migrant workers, and piloting integrated approaches between employment and social protection. The project supports multiple SDG targets, particularly those related to poverty reduction, gender equality, decent work, social protection, and public finance stability. It is well integrated with Uzbekistan's current United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, contributing to outcomes that benefit youth, women, and vulnerable groups through improved access to livelihoods, decent work, and quality health, education, and social services. The Project in Uzbekistan aims to significantly reduce informality by enhancing formal employment and extending social protection, thereby contributing to the country’s economic and social development. By addressing systemic challenges and leveraging collaborative efforts, the project seeks to create a sustainable impact that aligns with national development objectives, global development goals and ultimately improves the overall well-being of the population. Expected results include increased income security, decreased decent work deficit, and increased government revenues, thereby improving the quality and sustainability of essential public services in particular social protection for the most vulnerable and employment promotion. The Joint Programme intends in particular to contribute to the following results: 1/ access for workers to decent and productive formal employment opportunities and acceleration of transition of previously informal enterprises and jobs, and 2/ the extension of inclusive social protection coverage to workers in the informal economy, and those currently outside of the labour force. The project beneficiaries include women, youth, workers in the informal economy, migrant workers and other vulnerable groups. Government entities, social partners, and selected civil society organisations benefit from capacity-building activities.SDG
