Outcome summary

COVID-19 response programmes have been launched

Outcome achieved

Since COVID-19 pandemic, GoI has issued various social assistance programmes. This included a wage-subsidy programme launched on 27 August 2020. The programme target 15 million people in 2020 and 8.7 million people in 2021.

ILO's contribution to the outcome

With the support from the BMZ, ILO supported the GoI in its wage-subsidy programme by launching a pilot for workers affected by work stoppage due to Covid-19 in January 2021. Through the GoI wage subsidy programme, the project provided benefits to 7 factories, covering 9,000 workers, amounting to USD 73,000,00 in wage subsidies. With support from the GoJ, a tripartite meeting was held in December 2020 aimed at formulating a strategy on comprehensive social protection reforms.
