The Government of Pakistan established the first tripartite 'Social Security Coordination Forum'
Outcome achieved
The Government of Pakistan established the first tripartite ‘Social Security Coordination Forum (SSCF)’ in November 2020. The Forum has held three (3) meetings. This is the first time that a coordinated response has supported a number of positive initiatives to extend coverage, enhance comprehensiveness, and increase adequacy of benefits. These initiatives include joint coverage-campaign and awareness raising by the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI), the Employees Social Security Institutions-(ESSI) and the Workers Welfare Fund (WWF), study on extending social security to workers after their retirement; and three studies on covering informal economy workers.
ILO's contribution to the outcome
The ILO provided support to the SSCF by drafting and developing its TORs and composition of the Forum, proposing the preliminary agenda of meetings, providing secretarial support, and supporting the technical capacity development of SSCF members.
