Burundi adopts the ILO Social Security Inquiry as the tool for data collection on social protection
ILO
During a social protection stakeholders’ meeting on 15 June the National Social Protection Council of Burundi endorsed the ILO Social Security Inquiry (SSI) as the tool for data collection on social protection. Using the SSI will facilitate the review of activities contributing to the national social protection strategy and to link them to the SDG 1.3 indicators.
Government officials in charge of monitoring and evaluation of social protection confirmed their full support to ensure data is compiled in the SSI. They highly appreciated the ILO’s technical support to produce up-to-date, reliable, accurate and comparable social protection data. This meeting results from the participation of a delegation from Burundi in the ILO regional course “Monitoring progress towards SDG 1.3 and other social protection indicators using the ILO Social Security Inquiry”, which took place in Abidjan in June 2023. Together with efforts in other countries, ILO’s support will strengthen availability and accuracy of social protection coverage data in Africa which is a key element of the ILO’s Africa Regional Social Protection Strategy (2021 – 2025).
This initiative is part of the multi-donor programme in support of the ILO Flagship Programme on Building Social Protection Floors for All, funded by the Governments of Belgium and Luxembourg.
