The Bulletin of the World Health Organization (June 2014) includes a short article prepared by Krishna D Rao,Varduhi Petrosyan, Edson Correia Araujo and Diane McIntyre, on the progress towards universal health coverage in Brazil, The Russian Federation, India, China and South Africa. This paper analises the current state of health-care financing in BRICS and then move on to the underlying motivation behind the reforms and the lessons that BRICS’ experience holds for other low- and middle-income countries that are embarking on the path to universal health coverage.
