Summary (English)

The G20 Labour and Employment Ministers, gathered at Guadalajara, Mexico, 17-18 May 2012, produced this declaration with the meeting's final conclusions. The conclusions focus three main areas: (i) the creation of quality employment and decent work, (ii) the promotion of youth employment and (iii) inclusive green growth as quality employment generator, in the context of sustainable development.

The conclusions promote economic growth based on quality employment, i.e., jobs in the formal economy, with social security, dignified income and full protection of labour rights. In the conclusions, the G20 Leaders stress the important role played by social protection systems as automatic stabilisers in the crisis, and commit themselves to contribute to the development of policies that improve the countries' social security systems. They also encourage better cooperation with the G20 Development Working Group to assist developing countries in capacity building for implementing nationally determined social protection floors. The conclusions also highlight the cooperation between the ILO and the IMF, in collaboration with other international organizations, on sustainability of social protection floors and encourage its continuation.
