Summary (English)

The consultative and training workshop on employment injury protection in Southern and Eastern Africa took place in Harare, from 20 to 22 October 2014. The workshop focused on the following objectives:

  • filling the knowledge Gap on the situation of employment injury/compensation in the southern African region;
  • assisting policy makers in the process of reform in particular Botswana, Swaziland, Lesotho, Malawi, Ethiopia;
  • sharing information on the various approaches to employment injury protection including prevention and compensation frameworks applied by various countries within southern African region;
  • promoting learning from regional experience;
  • encouraging cooperation within the southern African region in the structuring and delivery of employment injury benefits taking into account the constant labour migration;
  • drafting recommendations for the reform and future development of employment injury schemes in Southern Africa.
