Summary (English)

It focuses on the contributions that social protection schemes can make to the costs and income loss incurred by patients. It aims at identifying institutional practices that improve the inclusiveness and the responsiveness of social protection schemes to HIV and TB.  The paper first provides an overview of the social protection coverage gaps worldwide and how those affect people who are vulnerable to or affected by HIV and TB. It then identifies examples of institutional practices aimed at making social protection schemes more inclusive of and responsive to the needs of people vulnerable to or affected by HIV and TB across the different design features of social protection systems.
