Summary (English)

With this controversy as a backdrop, this paper will trace recent trends in pension policy in the EU accession countries. Part I provides an overview of changes undertaken since the mid 1990s. It describes the modification of social insurance schemes; the scaling down of these schemes in favour of new arrangements that eliminate the sharing of risk and transfer the management of worker contributions to commercial firms; and the establishment of new mechanisms and incentives for voluntary private pension supplementation. Part II highlights additional pension issues that are in need of attention but have been overshadowed to greater or lesser extents by the controversy between models.
