Summary (English)

The survey focused on poor workers in the informal economy in the city of Ahmedabad and the five districts surrounding it. In the analysis, status of work, gender and rural-urban location were incorporated as structural features that created insecurities for the workers. A two-fold approach to security/insecurity, basic (food, education, health and shelter) and economic (work-related), was found analytically and theoretically useful to demarcate the insecurities faced by different sections of the population.
