Summary (French)

Part I of the guide entitled The role of micro-insurance as a tool to face risks in the context of social protection defines risk and outlines various types of risks. Using concrete examples, it explains the way different types of risk interact and their impact on the insecurity and vulnerability experienced by poor households. This section also discusses how to select which risks should be addressed first in order to reduce insecurity and vulnerability. To this end, a list of technical criteria is put forward, which includes the seriousness of the consequences, the magnitude of the risk, the length of exposure, and risks' probability.
