Summary (English)

This article elaborates on how health workforce benchmarks can contribute for the extension of Universal Health Coverage. One benchmark is the ILO’s staff-related access deficit indicator (SAD), which measures the relative difference between a particular country’s health workforce density and the population-weighted median health workforce density in a group of countries defined by the ILO as having low vulnerability. Providing an overview of the lacks existing in health care coverage, this benchmark is useful for planning and investment purposes at the national level, ultimately contributing for sustainable development.
