Summary (English)
This short paper acknowledges both the significant impact that migrant workers have on the economy (of their country of origin as well as of the country in which they are employed) and the disadvantages that migrant workers frequently experience in exercising their rights, in particular gaining access to social security coverage. Emphasis is laid on the vital role that social security agreements between ASEAN countries could play as a means of improving migrant workers' access to social security.
