Background

Social protection and occupational safety and health systems share a common public health objective: to promote healthy working lives and support workers through periods of illness, injury, and rehabilitation. Together, they address key social and environmental determinants of health—particularly through occupational health services and social protection schemes that provide access to health care, employment injury protection, and income security.

These services and schemes contribute significantly to Sustainable Development Goal 3 on health and wellbeing for all : by preventing occupational diseases, promoting safe and healthy working conditions, and supporting recovery, social protection schemes and occupational health services play a vital role in public health

This joint ISSA–ILO webinar, organized jointly by the ILO Universal Social Protection Department and the ISSA Technical Commission on Medical Care and Sickness Insurance, will explore how occupational health services and social protection policies are interconnected, and can be further integrated. It will feature concrete examples from ISSA member institutions showcasing how these services are integrated into broader prevention and rehabilitation strategies for workers.
This webinar is part of the ISSA webinar series on mental health across the life course.
