L'OIT et le PNUD renforcent les capacités des syndicats en matière d'égalité des sexes et de réduction de la pauvreté

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) trained, from 15 to 17 October, in Luanda, members of trade unions on Leadership and Participation of Trade Unions for the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In the training held with union representatives from other provinces, the participants specifically addressed SDG 1, on Poverty Reduction, and SDG 5, on Gender Equality, in order to promote inclusive and non-discriminatory practices within trade unions, provide participants with strategies to support the eradication of poverty and improve the skills of trade union organizations to promote and advocate for Social Protection policies in Angola.
During the three days of training, facilitated by the ILO and UNDP, 21 trade unionists were trained, including seven men, namely: National Union of Workers of Angola (UNTA-CS), Força Sindical (FSA-CS) and the General Central of Independent and Free Trade Unions of Angola (CGSILA).
The ILO Project Manager in Angola, Denise Monteiro, reminded those present at the opening session that trade unions are a mandatory part of the ILO, within the scope of the Organization's relationship between the constitution and work of the Organization, and substantiated the usefulness of training to promote the participation of trade unions in the achievement of the SDGs.
For the European Union Programme Manager in Angola, Francesco Elicio, the achievement of the sustainable development goals must be a collective effort of the Government, civil society and development partners. "We have to recognize the fundamental role of unions in influencing national public policies in order to make them more aligned with the SDGs," he reinforced.
"UNTA-CS is working to give members, especially the Committee of Trade Unionized Women (CMS), tools to integrate the SDGs into their strategy and operations to increase their impact in promoting social justice," said Nfinda Virginie, Secretary for International Relations and Solidarity at UNTA-CS, who considered the relationship with the ILO and the support of the European Union important for its institutional purposes.
The activity is part of the Project "Expansion of Social Security to Support the Formalization of the Angolan Economy (ESSAFE Angola)", funded by the European Union, implemented by the ILO in Angola, with the aim of supporting the formalization efforts of the Government of Angola, through the expansion of social security coverage and benefits.
