Summary

The first regular session of 2009 of the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (UNCEB), chaired by the Secretary-General, was held at the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) headquarters in Paris on 4 April 2009. The summary of conclusions includes the report of the High-level Committee on Programmes which prepared an action framework for the UNCEB in response to the crisis. This framework is aimed at meeting the needs of those the UN system serve and at ensuring economic, social and environmental sustainability. Nine joint initiatives for action at the global, regional and country levels were articulated as a coherent United Nations system response to the crisis, including the Social Protection Floor Initiative that ensures access to basic social services, and the empowerment and protection of the poor and vulnerable.
