Building social protection floors
and comprehensive social security systems

National/regional events

GTT members will be asked to organize at least one event on universal social protection, at the country or regional levels, and/or to actively participate in important regional or global conferences (e.g. CISS conference on 75 years of social security in Latin America, April 2018, Cancun; etc.).

ILO events will use the same structure as the social protection week, with a mix of thematic discussions, development partners’ forum, and communication events. They may focus on specific branches of social security or target groups or regions (e.g. universal health care, maternity benefits, social protection for migrants, social protection in Asia-Pacific, etc.) depending on priorities.

ILO SOCPRO will develop and share general guidance, branding and messages for the organization of these conferences. The conferences will lead to national/regional consensus or declaration that will be signed by all representatives of States, workers and employers organizations, and widely disseminated through the social networks and at the final global Conference on “100 years of social security: the road to universal social protection” (see below).

Communication activities could be organized during these conferences (for instance, taking pictures of participants with a banner “I support #USP2030”).
