Disability-inclusive social protection

Joint COVID-19 response

The UN Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNPRPD) funded an inter-agency programme from 2020 to 2021 to promptly support countries in designing and implementing disability-inclusive responses to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project provided technical support, evidence, knowledge-based learning and guidance to inform communities and governments while tackling the crisis.

The programme harnessed the expertise of nine UN organizations (the ILO, UN Women, OHCHR, UNDP, WHO, DESA, UNICEF, UNFPA and UNESCO), which implemented the initiative along with the International Disability Alliance (IDA) and the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC).

The ILO took the lead on social protection in cooperation with UNICEF. This project component sought to contribute to a disability-inclusive social protection response to the COVID-19 crisis and the development of social protection systems (including floors) that enable inclusive recovery and improved preparedness to face future emergencies.
