African Regional Meeting 2011
The 11th African Regional Meeting of the ILO (Addis Abeba, april 2007) adopted the conclusions that all African countries should adopt coherent national strategies for social security. Three years later, in October 2010 at the Second African Decent Work Symposium the same countries adopted the Yaoundé Tripartite Declaration for the implementation of a social security floor, recognizing the urgency of the need for all African states, members of the ILO and social partners to launch its rapid and effective implementation.
From the Second African Decent Work Symposium and the discussions at the ILC an Action plan for the implementation of a social protection floor was devised. This October, the 12th African Regional Meeting will be held in Yaoundé, Cameroon. On this occasion, the draft for consultation of the Action Plan will be discussed with the tripartite members in order to refine and determine an appropriate action plan in the year 2012 after a synthesis and study of reactions and comments collected.
The members/participants are welcomed to comment on this plan by sending a message to the following address: secsoc@ilo.org.
