Canada and CARICOM countries
Canada, as a major receiving country has signed bilateral agreements with over 50 countries. Furthermore, Third-State totalizing is made possible for migrant workers of member states of 9 of the 13 states and territories that have signed and ratified the CARICOM Agreement [see multilateral agreeements]. This includes Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint-Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.
The United-States and Australia and EU Convention
The United-States and Australia have also concluded a number of social security agreements with different countries. The majority of the countries that have concluded agreements are from the European continent. This allows for third-State totalizing for the member states of the EU regulation on the coordination of social security systems [see multilateral agreements].
Euro-Mediterranean partnership
Since the 1990’s the EU has concluded social security agreements with different Maghreb countries (Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia) containing provision for the portability of benefits for workers from the Maghreb working in the EU. In 1995, with the Barcelona Declaration negotiations have continued to enhance social security agreements between the countries of the EUROMED partnership. Cooperation agreements were re-launched in 2008 as the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) coordinating social security between the EU and more partners.
