EU/ILO Workshop: Social Protection Expenditure and Performance Review (SPER - DRAFT) and the impact study of the support fund for the promotion of employment in Burkina Faso
Summary (English)
On October 6 and 7, in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, a technical workshop was held. The aim of the workshop was the review and validation of the Social Protection Expenditure and Performance Review (SPER) and the impact study on support funds for the promotion of employment in Burkina Faso. The SPER and the impact study were conducted in the framework of the EU-ILO project “Improving social protection and promoting employment.”
The objectives of the SPER are to identify the scope of social protection in terms of risks and needs covered as well as existing gaps; determine the expenses and their financing structures; and analyze the effectiveness of the performance of existing social protection schemes regarding their coverage. Therefore, the SPER provides a holistic analysis of the wider social protection system in Burkina Faso, complementing previous research by the World Bank and UNICEF that mainly focus on the country's social safety nets.

Summary (Spanish)
Se celebró los días 6 y 7 de octubre un taller de capacitación en Burkina Faso. El objetivo del taller fue la revisión y validación del Análisis des las Prestaciones y de los Indicadores de Resultados de la Protección Social (SPER por sus siglas en inglés), así como un estudio de impacto de los fondos de apoyo para la promoción del empleo en Burkina Faso. El SPER y el estudio de impacto se realizaron en el marco del proyecto UE-OIT “Mejorando la protección social y promoviendo el empleo”.
Las metas del SPER son las de identificar el alcance de la protección social en términos de riesgos y necesidades cubiertas así como las lagunas existentes; determinar los gastos y sus estructuras de financiación; analizar la efectividad del rendimiento de los esquemas de protección existentes relacionados con su cobertura. Por tanto, el SPER proporciona un análisis holístico del sistema de protección social más amplio en Burkina Faso, complementando varias investigaciones del Banco Mundial y de UNICEF focalizadas principalmente en las redes de seguridad social del país.
